Call Admission Control (CAC)

Created by Kelly Evans, Modified on Wed, 4 Jun at 10:58 AM by Kelly Evans

Call Admission Control (CAC) applies to real-time media traffic but not to data traffic. CAC complements Quality of Service (QoS) capabilities and performs the following:

  • Protects voice traffic from the negative effects of other data traffic.

  • Prevents excess voice traffic and congestion on the network.

  • Rejects calls when insufficient bandwidth is present.

There are often several ways to implement CAC in an SBC/PBX and limit the number of calls. However, these methods are not typically required since the Peeredge Orchestrator can be configured for CAC. Once this limit is reached, the Peeredge Orchestrator  rejects additional calls.
