E.164

E.164 is an international standard that defines a numbering plan for the worldwide public switched telephone network (PSTN) as well as some other data networks.

E.164 numbers can have a maximum of fifteen digits and are usually written as follows: [+][country code][subscriber number including area code]. An example a US number in the E. 164 format is +16175551212.

The Peeredge Orchestrator fully supports E.164 numbers, but internally the Peeredge Orchestrator does not store the leading [+] symbol as part of the number. So in the Portal’s User Interface the [+] symbol should not be included. When the Orchestrator communicates to it's SIP Trunking Peers, it uses a full E.164 (e.g. includes the plus) number is all relevant SIP headers, when the Send E.164 option is checked on the Origination Customer and Termination Vendor trunk groups. The SBC, by default, accepts E.164 formatted number from its SIP Trunking Peers, on the Termination Customer and Origination Vendor trunk groups. The recommended best practice is to always use E.164 formatted numbers.

For example, when adding or uploading numbers to the Numbering page of an Origination Routplan do not include the [+].
