Number Portability Dip Indicator (NPDI)

Created by Kelly Evans, Modified on Thu, 1 May at 2:39 PM by Kelly Evans

The Number Portability Dip Indicator (NPDI) shows a query to the Number Portability Data Base (NPDB) has been made. It also indicates the call should be routed using the phone number in the “rn” field (if present) instead of the original called number.

When Send NPDI is enabled on an Origination Customer or a Termination Vendor Trunk Group , the Orchestrator adds a Number Portability Dip Indicator (;npdi=yes) between the user and host portions of the Request URI and the To: header in outgoing SIP Invite. NPDI indicates that a query to the Number Portability Database (e.g. the LRN Database) has been completed. If there was an LRN associated with the number in the incoming SIP Invite then it will be included in in the "rn" field of the outgoing SIP Invite's Request URI and To: field . This field can be included in order to prevent subsequent lookups by upstream providers.

For example:  INVITE sip:+12006005287;npdi=yes;rn=+12044311399@1.2.3.4;user=phone SIP/2.0

                      To: <sip:+12006005287;npdi=yes;rn=+12044311399@1.2.3.4>
